Welcome to the toolbox.  Hopefully these tools will help you in your fitness pursuits.

Scheduling

Google Calendar – Google Calendar can sync with your Android phone (and others). It is easy to access from any computer.

Phone alarm – Set your phone’s daily alarm (if you’re not already using it to wake up) to remind you when it’s time to train

Sticky notes – Old fashioned paper and pen method – put a note where you will see it every day when it’s time to remind youself. For example, a sticky on the computer monitor might remind you to work out when you first get up if you always check your email first thing.

Equipment

Prohands Grip Master – My favorite grip exerciser.  Each finger is independent, which can help strengthen your weaker fingers.  They also have lot of different exercises that weren’t possible using the old V-shaped grip strengtheners.  Another cool feature is that they will suggest certain exercises based on the activity you want to focus on (such as golf, tennis, computer work, martial arts, climbing, etc.).  I participate in a number of those activities – climbing, martial arts, and computer work – on a regular basis.  You might want to start out with one of the ones with lower resistance – they have a bunch of models.

Jump rope – An old classic, jump ropes like this one can help with cardio and strengthen your calves (The less expensive 9.5 foot option seems like the best deal).  Ones that use rope are unacceptable, as they don’t have the weight to keep swinging around.  The rubber ones are good, but tend to kink and twist up after you wrap them up to store.  The leather ones are my favorite, since they have enough weight and don’t kink very much.  For an added kick, you can get ones with weighted handles.

A Hundred Pushups – A 6 week training program to get you from the couch to a hundred pushups in one session. Specific to pushups, but it might be fairly easy to get friends and co-workers involved in.
